In the heart of Jakarta’s fast-paced life, Teh Sore with Nona Srikaya created a space to slow down, connect, and appreciate Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage.
Held at Sarinah, Central Jakarta, on February 22-23, 2025, the event was a collaboration between Nona Srikaya, a self-manufactured kebaya brand, and Terra Coterie, with support from Sila Tea and Heels Addict. More than just an afternoon gathering, it was an opportunity to celebrate tradition, share personal stories, and engage in meaningful creative experiences.
Terra Coterie is a Jakarta-based creative workshop group that organizes weekend events open to all, providing an inclusive space for people of different backgrounds to explore their creativity and develop new skills. The workshops throughout this event offered participants a chance to engage with Indonesian traditions while fostering a sense of connection and craftsmanship.
One of the highlights was the draping workshop by Nona Srikaya, where participants learned to style traditional fabrics in a modern, expressive way. Caroline Florist led a floral hair accessory workshop, guiding attendees in crafting elegant hairpins and hair sticks inspired by classic Indonesian designs. Another session, led by Renceum, focused on sustainability, transforming leftover kebaya fabric into delicate orchid-shaped bag charms—a small but impactful step toward reducing textile waste.
For this special gathering, Batik Madura fabric was provided to participants as a tribute to Indonesian heritage. It served as a reminder of the deep cultural roots woven into everyday life and reflected Nona Srikaya’s commitment to keeping traditional craftsmanship relevant.
Though the event has ended, the skills learned, and the connections made will hopefully continue to inspire those who took part to keep our traditions alive in new and personal ways.
