Established by Teguh Karya and now led by Slamet Raharjo, the group has produced hundreds of performances, launched numerous stars, and become an icon in Indonesian theater. Teater Populer has not only influenced the world of theater but also served as a bridge to bring theatrical elements into Indonesian cinema.
Slamet Rahardjo, as the director and actor in DAG DIG DUG, stated, "The play DAG DIG DUG is not just a performance but a reflection of anxiety and hope, presented in a narrative with clear cause-and-effect relationships. Every scene is crafted with interconnected dimensions of space, time, and events to bring the story to life. I hope this play can touch hearts and provide a memorable experience for art enthusiasts."
The play DAG DIG DUG is produced by Paquita Widjaja and Samuel Wattimena, with co-producer Taba Sancabakhtiar. In addition to featuring Slamet Rahardjo, the cast includes Niniek L Karim, Donny Damara, Reza Rahadian, Kiki Narendra, and Jose Rizal. Set in Yogyakarta, Central Java, the play tells the story of Chaerul Umam, a knowledgeable, intelligent, humble, charismatic student leader who suddenly becomes the subject of discussion after his unexpected death in a hit-and-run incident. Chaerul Umam’s traffic accident is suspected to be a planned act, based on inconsistencies surrounding the reasons for his death.
"Being part of DAG DIG DUG is an exciting experience. The script by Putu Wijaya offers a depth of story full of emotion and relevance, not just for the actors but also for the audience. I feel honored to work with such talented artists under the direction of Slamet Rahardjo to bring this meaningful story to life. I hope this play opens up space for reflection while providing a meaningful experience for art enthusiasts. Don’t miss the chance to watch it!" said Reza Rahadian.
