“BARA”, 2024 Annual Collection by AKSU

Updated: 6 days ago

AKSU, short for Akar Suara or "Roots of Voice," is a brand that celebrates Indonesia's cultural heritage through modern, thoughtful design. Inspired by art, culture, nature, and music, AKSU creates pieces that tell stories of individuality and self-expression. With a focus on slow fashion, every collection incorporates handcrafted details and innovative elements, blending tradition with contemporary style. AKSU also works to empower local artisans, turning cultural narratives into timeless, wearable art.

This year, AKSU proudly presents BARA, its sixth main collection, inspired by the rich heritage of Bima, East Sumbawa. Launched on November 15th, 2024, BARA offers eight signature looks, including five womenswear options and three menswear and unisex styles. For the first time, AKSU is offering a direct rental option for this collection, which is exclusively available for pre-order.

The name BARA, symbolically meaning "root," reflects the strength and resilience found in Bima’s traditions. Drawing from the philosophy of Maja Labo Dahu, which emphasizes integrity, harmony, and respect, the collection channels the deep connection to community and culture that defines the region. Inspired by rituals like Petakapanca, a ceremony for blessings and protection, and Ranca Dolu, a tradition of forgiveness, BARA incorporates the spirit of Bima’s cultural heritage into its designs.

The collection features loose-fitting pieces with asymmetrical cuts and textured layers, echoing the rhythms of Bima’s daily life and symbolic practices. Earthy tones and vibrant colors are drawn from the natural beauty of the region, while soft yet durable fabrics symbolize strength and adaptability. With handcrafted details and timeless silhouettes, BARA is a modern expression of Bima’s cultural roots.
